Sari Ehrenreich Designs Play Up The Details
Excerpted from Palisadian-Post article, July 25, 1996
When interior designer Sari Ehrenreich speaks, she puts a lot of energy into the details. She is a meticulous, vibrant woman who admits to harboring an attraction to the exotic; a predilection for a balance between the urban and the natural worlds, for the perfect relationship between the interior and the exterior.
A self-proclaimed "romantic," Ehrenreich has spent her adult life transforming drab rooms into colorful yet cozy spaces. "Home should be a stage." she says. "People want their home to be comfortable, beautiful and fun."
To insure that the homes she works on are comfortable, Ehrenreich takes the approach that balance is essential to comfort. Houses are extensions of their natural surroundings. So in an urban environment like New York, an interior can provide an escape from the grime outside. But in California you always want to bring the outside in, you want to use colors from nature," she says.
In order to supply her clients with natural fabrics and furnishings, Ehrenreich utilizes a diverse network of designers and builders she has cultivated over the last 20 years. In addition, she attends trade and crafts shows, always with an eye open for something new.
A native of Los Angeles who grew up in Beverly Hills, Ehrenreich attended Beverly Hills High School, then earned a bachelor's degree in interior design from Woodbury University, near Burbank, which in the early 1970s was the only school that offered such a degree.
From 1976 to 1983 she owned a design company in Manhattan. She moved to Pacific Palisades in 1986. She has a 10 year old son, Alden. She is as committed to her community as to her family. As an active member of Kehillat Israel Jewish Congregation, she has served on several committees, including the interior design committee. She volunteers at Palisades Elementary School and several other charitable organizations as well.
